Biography

Born in 1949 in Reading, Berkshire and educated in local schools. Des has drawn and painted from a very young age and studied initially at the Berkshire College of Art.

However, he is substantially self-taught, with a strong inclination towards depicting scenes of rural life which are fast disappearing.

Being a dedicated conservationist, he walks and cycles all over the country, sketching scenes portraying the British countryside and also, through exhibitions and newspaper/magazine articles, endeavours to heighten people's awareness for the need to retain these pastoral scenes.

Des has exhibited in London: Oxford: The 'Woodhay Gallery' - Newbury; Forest Fine Art Gallery Guildford; The 'Johnson Gallery' - Farnham; his hometown of Reading and nearby Camberley; his works regularly feature 'Angles of Art' in Tilehurst.

He has works in many private collections in this country and abroad, including USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Africa and Germany. He has had write-ups in the "Artist" magazine.
